3 ways to Draw Flash From Beginner to Advance Level

For this tutorial, we would be stepping into the world of Justice League to draw one of its amazing characters known as Flash. One thing we love about flash apart from his great look is his supersonic speed. Now, we would be drawing flash in all his glory and we would be doing this in 3 ways to enable you to test your skills from a beginner scale all the way to the advanced level. Additionally, for each of the three ways, we would create a dummy. They would serve as bases for our final sketches. Also, you should follow the steps of each tutorial carefully in order to get the best results. That said, let’s get drawing!.

How To Draw Flash Face ( Beginner Level)

In this tutorial, we would be making a drawing of the face of flash and this would be done in thirteen easy steps. I would guide you through each step and you should have a flawless finish if you follow them strictly.

Step 1: Drawing The Jaws Right Side

Using the above image as a guide, Just make a simple curved line to depict his right jaw.

Step 2: Drawing The Jaws Left Side

At the left side, draw another curve to link with the jaws right side. This should give a full jaw.

Step 3: Drawing The Head

To draw the head of our character, simply draw a curved line in the form of an arc that connects from the right side of the jaw to the left side of the jaw.

Step 4: Drawing The Neck And Chest

Using the above image as a guide, draw the neck as two short and slanted vertical lines that connect to the head. Next up draw a straight horizontal line that directly runs below the neck. Finally, the chest should be drawn as an arc or semi-circle that connects to the horizontal line. When drawing, the left side of the neck and chest should be larger than the right.

Step 5: Drawing The Mask Eye Holes

For this stage, simply refer to the above picture and draw the mask eye holes in the shape of actual eyes. Each hole should, however, be close to the other.

Step 6: Drawing The Mask Mouth Opening

Having drawn the eye holes, draw the mouth opening in the form of a zig-zag cutting. The opening should extend above the nose as seen.

Step 7: Drawing The Mouth and The Nose

The mouth can be depicted by two short horizontal lines. As shown in the picture, the lower line should be shorter than the upper line.

Step 8: Drawing The Ears

For the ears, simply draw a very short curve at each side of the head and at the same level with the eyes and nose.

Step 9: Drawing The Ear Wings And The Flash Logo

Using the image as a guide, the ear wings should be drawn as two vertical lines that extend out from each ear and has a sharp looking tip. Having drawn that, go on to draw the flash logo on the chest of our character.

Step 10: Drawing The Final Line Art

Here, we are going to draw our final sketch by including our drawing all the lines in the above picture that we missed in the previous steps.

Step 11: Painting The Base Colors

Here’s where we introduce a pop to our sketch. So pull out all your colors as seen in the image and let’s get painting.

Step 12: Painting The Shadows

The shadows on our character can be seen in places such as the forehead, underneath the eyes, and the left side of the neck. For the best shadow effect, use chromatic black or complementary colors as opposed to straight black.

Step 13: Painting The Lights

For the lights, mix glow in the dark powder with your color red and touch areas outside the shadows.

How To Draw Flash Standing ( Intermediate )

In this tutorial, we would draw flash on his feet in six easy steps. Remember to follow each step strictly.

Step 1: Drawing The Torso

Flash torso should be drawn using the 3/4 drawing scale meaning the left side facing the viewers should be broader than the right. Additionally, his chest and shoulders should be bigger than his waist region. Going on, his torso should also be divided by a vertical line and a horizontal line that would highlight his chest. Another horizontal line should be drawn to highlight his collarbone. Having drawn that, a circle should be drawn at the top of the torso between the shoulders and at the upper left side of the torso to serve as a base for the head and arms respectively. Lastly, a base should be created for our characters legs in the form of a man’s underwear.

Step 2: Drawing The Legs

The legs should be drawn as big tubes that gradually reduce as they get to the knees. After the knees, they should curve out and gradually reduce as they get to the ankles. Then draw the feet as seen in the image. The knees should also be highlighted by two horizontal lines on the knee region of each leg and a circle should be drawn within these lines.

Step 3: Drawing The Arms

The arms should be drawn as tubes that start big and reduce in size as they get to the elbows region. They should then extend out and get smaller as they get to the wrist. Then draw the hands and fingers as seen in the picture. Having drawn that, draw the lines seen within the upper arm of the picture. This serves to highlight the biceps and triceps.

Step 4: Drawing The Head

A neck should first be drawn on the base earlier created for the head. Next up, draw the head as a medium sized circle. Then divide the head by a vertical line. When doing this, the 3/4 drawing scale should be used. Finally using the image as a guide, draw a horizontal line that would intersect the vertical line.

Step 5: Drawing The Body And Costume Details

At this stage, we will start drawing body features, like the eyes and the nose, and costume details like the Flash logo on the chest, or the thunder-like headsets placed over the ears.

Step 6: Drawing The Final Line Art

At this point, erase the dummy slightly and use the traces left to draw the final sketch of the above picture. You should properly draw the facial details and the outfit.

Step 7: Painting The Base Colors

Here’s where we introduce a pop to our sketch. So pull out all your colors as seen in the image and let’s get painting.

How To Draw Flash Running ( Advance )

Well, we know flash has superhuman speed. So, in this tutorial, we would draw him running in seven easy steps.

Step 1: Drawing The Torso

Flash torso would be drawn bending forward and his shoulders and chest area should be broader than his waist region. The interior of the torso should be divided into three horizontal lines. The first running from shoulder to shoulder and the rest highlighting the chest, and the abs. Having drawn that, using the image as a guide, a vertical line should divide the torso from top to bottom. Next up, at the top of the torso draw a circle and at the right side of the torso draw a curve. This would serve as a base for the head and arms respectively.

Step 2: Drawing The Legs

The legs would be drawn closed and the left leg would be bigger than the right leg. So basically draw two long vertical lines that connect to the torso and draw another vertical line in the middle with the left side being bigger than the right side.

Step 3: Drawing The Arms

Using the image as a guide, the right arm should be drawn bent forward and the right arm should extend back. Each arm should start off as a big tube and reduce in size as they get to the elbows. They should then extend out and get smaller as they get to the wrist. Then draw the hands and fingers as seen in the picture. Having drawn that, draw the lines seen within the upper arm of the picture. This serves to highlight the biceps and triceps.

Step 4: Drawing The Head

The head of our character should be drawn as a medium sized oval shape. It should then be divided by a vertical line and a horizontal line. These lines would be useful for drawing facial details.

Step 5: Drawing The Details and The Final Line Art

In this step, we will start drawing thecostume details like the Flash logo on the chest, the thunders around the wrists, or the thunder-like headsets placed over the ears.

At this point, you should fade out the dummy slightly and then use the traces left to draw the final lines and outfit of our character.

Step 6: Painting The Base Colors

Here’s where we introduce a pop to our sketch. So pull out all your colors as seen in the image such as red yellow and white and let’s paint ourselves a masterpiece.

Step 7: Painting The Shadows

In this image, flash shadows can be seen in his upper arms, his shoulders, his underarms among several other places. So, to get the best shadow painting, use darker complementary colors or chromatic black instead of straight black.

Conclusion

Here’s where we call it a wrap. However, if you desire to sharpen up your character drawing skills, don’t put away your drawing tools just yet. Simply repeat these tutorials and you would be perfect in no time.
